A spectacular early Victorian cast iron door stop featuring a serpent coiled around an eagle. Extremely good casting. On the reverse is the foundry's model number opposite a diamond date mark, noting design registration date - in this case 'May 1st 1846'.

There is an old chip to the top, but this has not cracked or weakened the overall structure of the piece. It is rare to find a door stop of this age that hasn't been subjected to modern layers of paint!
