A rare set of 19th century German toy construction blocks, entitled 'Buildings of Antiquity'. The set comes with hand-coloured printed illustrations of the types of buildings you can build from the blocks. These illustrations alone are worthy of being framed and hung on a wall. Inside the box there are various shaped wooden pieces which are also illustrated with hand-coloured prints of architectural details mostly in the Gothic Revival style. Some of them feature stone statues of knights, gothic tracery, gothic arches, coats of arms, and panels of stained glass. The set may be incomplete, but the majority is intact.
