A late 19th century Cornish stick back armchair in old yellow paintwork. A traditional West Country design, made of elm and ash. This example has been in the same family for at least the last 70 years, hence the numerous layers of cream, lemon and beige paintwork. We have removed several of these layers down to the most consistent colour, most likely applied in the 1950s. There has been some loss to the leg length over the years, however this has not affected its sturdiness. The overall structure is tight. Old worm holes in the elm seat have been treated as a precaution. Seat height - 39cm.
