A 19th century oil on canvas painting of terriers hunting rabbits in a fenland countryside. The two Jack Russell type terriers that feature in the foreground are well-observed, and have been painted by the artist with very purposeful and distinct coat markings. This suggests that it was a commission by the dogs' owner to capture the portraits of this dog and bitch pair, setting them in a pastoral landscape for context. Beautiful composition!

The painting has been professionally cleaned and restored. There is evidence on the back of the canvas that a couple of previous repairs have been carried out in the past.
