A superb original sailor's woolwork of a fleet of ships at sea. Amongst the five naval craft featured, two are steam-powered, a sight which would have become more common from the 1850s onwards.
 
The artwork is in lovely condition, with little fading to the wool colours, and practically all of the delicate rigging intact. An unusually large example of sailor's folk art. The glass has been cleaned and the back resealed.
