An early 19th century two-pint ale tankard. Creamware pottery decorated with slipware bands and a sepia-tone transfer print of a horse race. A rare surviving example in this size, featuring jockeys and thoroughbreds racing towards the finish-line flag. The tankard shows evidence of much use, with worn away glaze on the rim and the handle. There is also an old chip to the lip, and a star hairline to the base. Otherwise very sound.
