An early 19th century two-pint ale tankard. Creamware pottery decorated with slipware bands and a sepia-tone transfer print of a horse race. A rare surviving example in this size, featuring jockeys and thoroughbreds racing towards the finish-line flag. The tankard shows evidence of much use, with worn away glaze on the rim and the handle. Hairline crack on one side from top edge downwards for two inches. Otherwise very sound.
