A book title from the highly collectable 'Puffin Picture Book' series, started by Penguin Books in the early 1940s. They were edited by Noel Carrington, an authority on print and design, who commissioned many of the leading graphic artists of the period, including Edward Bawden, Clarke Hutton, Brynhild Parker, and Enid Marx.

These picture books, launched in December 1940, were noteworthy for their use of colour printing from auto-lithography, in which the artist draws directly onto the printing plate. This wartime economy was phased out in peacetime, replaced by photo lithography.

These vintage books have creases, and small tears, but are complete. Colour and monochrome illustrations.
