An early 19th century needlework sampler by Jane Paterson, age 8 years. Besides the usual numerals and alphabet characters, she has incorporated a picture of her house with smoke billowing out of the chimney. A naively depicted bird sits on the roof, and her pet black and white dog sits faithfully by the side of the house. Later Edwardian oak frame.
