SOLD
An early 20th century carved wooden model of the 'Glenalvon', a British fully-rigged sailing ship built in 1888. The model is quite naive and simple, but the majority of it is of carved wood, including the hull, sails and sea waves. It was possibly made by a sailor who once served aboard this ship, or by someone with another connection to it. Pine case, with original antique glass, which has been taken out to be cleaned, and then put back. Repainted exterior.
The 'Glenalvon' was built in 1888 by Russell & Co. Ltd, Greenock. Unfortunately, it collided with a trawler in 1913 and sank, whilst en route from Mejillones in Chile, to Hamburg carrying a cargo of nitrates.
