A very primitively-made continental weathervane cockerel with military gentleman riding on its tail. Made from cut-out sheet metal rivetted together, and supported by a wrought iron stem.

It has great age with various old repairs visible, as well as a surface of gnarled and crusty paintwork. The standing figure possibly once had a sword or a shield in his hand.

Seen in silhouette, this piece is reminiscent of an illustration from a Grimm's Fairy Tale - a lovely example of rural folk art. Bespoke later table stand.
