An original 19th century eight-sided sailor's shellwork valentine. Most likely originating from Barbados. A nice Victorian example with original glass.
 
Barbados was an important mid-way stop along the Triangle Trade Route, where ships took on supplies and carried out repairs. The ideal place to sell shellwork souvenirs to sailors to take home to their sweethearts!
