A small round Edwardian shellwork diorama featuring a chromolithograph of the Empress of Ireland ocean liner, mounted behind a blown glass front. In front of this image is an artfully arranged display of shells, seaweed and coral creating a 3D effect to the view. In good condition, and ready to hang.
These shellwork dioramas were produced in the late Victorian/early Edwardian period as souvenirs of coastal towns and seaside locations, often bought by sailors to take home as presents for their sweethearts.
