A beautiful 19th century sailor's sweetheart woolwork incorporating a sepia photographic print of a mother and child. Either side of the image hangs the flag of the Union, and the ensign of the Merchant Navy. This great symmetry is continued with a heart shape flanked either side by anchors. The centre top area displays the crown of Queen Victoria. All these details are nicely framed by a rope-like woolwork border. A lovely example, in lovely condition.
