A large 19th century sailor's woolwork, or 'woolie', of a Lowestoft fishing boat. A lovely 'graphic' composition, with the large sails of the boat dominating the picture. There are a few broken wools, but overall in good condition for age.
In 1868, the UK Government introduced the Fishing Boat Registration system whereby commercial boats were assigned numbers, prefixed by letters representing the port in which they resided'. 'LT' represented Lowestoft. 'LT330' was registered in 1883.
