A 19th c. British sailor's woolwork, or 'woolie', of a three-masted naval ship anchored offshore. The vessel has its sails furled and packed amongst extensive rigging. A small cutter sails alongside. The background landscape features a church nestled amongst hills, and a lighthouse on top of the highest vantage point. There are a few small holes in the woolwork, but this does not detract from the strong composition and folk art charm of the picture.
