A striking 19th century sailor's woolwork, or woolie, if not somewhat naive, portraying HMS Narcissus. The stylised waves are wonderful, as are the groups of signal flags, and silkwork lifeboats. There are some areas of historic moth attack, which has left trails of darker colour where the bottom layer of the wools have been exposed. However, this does not detract from the bold composition of this example. Original maple frame.
