A bold mid 20th century oil on canvas portrait of a young woman by Virginia Goldberg (1914-2011). The painting has great presence, with its large area of strong blue contrasting with the bright red of the woman's lipstick. Although not dated, the style of the sitter's dress would suggest late 1930s/early 40s. A great decorative piece for an interior. Signed to reverse 'V. Goldberg'. Small dent to canvas surface in top right corner. Canvas stretcher at the back of painting has manufacturer stamp for 'ANCO Inc' of Glendale, NY.
 
Goldberg was a recognised and  listed American artist. She was a painter and illustrator, and member of The American Artists Professional League.
