A late 19th century naive watercolour painting on paper of a Georgian farmhouse and outbuildings. Signed to right hand corner 'by S. Glassey' and dated '1884' (?). A charming picture in its original frame and gilt slip. When the painting was removed to clean the glass, a description on the back was discovered that reads 'Mrs Glassey, 9 Smithdown Lane' and the price '3/6'. This was presumably written by the picture framer. We are fairly confident that this address refers to the historic area of Smithdown Lane in Liverpool. The site of No.9 is now occupied by the University of Liverpool International College.

There has been some water damage and staining to the painting, as well as the frame and slip. A lovely original example of British folk art.
