A period coronation mug for George VI, modelled and designed by Dame Laura Knight (1877–1970). Based on her original watercolour, this unusual and highly decorative design incorporates an elephant and St George and the Dragon. This particular example has an additional annotation to the inside of the rim: 'Presented on Coronation Day by Sir Arthur Stanley, Treasurer of St Thomas' Hospital'.
