A dramatic oil on canvas painting of a Cornish tin or copper mine. The composition is bold and somewhat abstract, featuring engine houses with their ventilation chimneys, spoil heaps, and miner's cottages, all cleverly juxtaposed within the portrait format. The artist has applied the paint quite thickly impasto which further enhances the subject matter. Both the creative style and the colour palette are typical for the mid century period in which it was created. Signed 'N. Homer' and dated 1969. A great statement piece for a wall!
