A superb pair of naively woolworked pictures of ships, which can be attributed to the artist that created them. Both woolworks are annotated 'Worked by Mr A. E. Skinner', both on the front gilt mounts and to the reverse backing boards. One is dated to 1921.

They are wonderfully simple in design, and in fact display a similarity to the naive paintings of Alfred Wallis (1855–1942). This pair of woolworks were sourced in West Cornwall, so there is a strong possibility that Skinner knew, or was aware of Wallis, who was based in St Ives at the time.

Original gilt cardboard mounts, in what appears to be repurposed pine frames with lovely old float glass. One picture portrays a 'Ketch', and the other a 'Topsail Schooner'. Two lovely, authentic examples of true folk art. Even the naive typography on the back boards have a charm!
