An engaging oil on canvas portrait of a young woman. The loose paint brushstrokes combined with the sitter's dress fashion and shingled hair suggests that this is almost certainly dating to the 1930s. Unsigned, but painted by a very competent, if not professional, artist.
 
The chips and marks to the gilded gesso frame add character to this country house artwork.
