A pair of oil on canvas portrait paintings of a man and woman, dating from around 1820, most likely a husband and wife, possibly commissioned to celebrate their marriage.
They are well-painted, obviously by a competant artist, with a lot of observed detail given to the couple's fine clothes. We have had the paintings professionally restored and cleaned, which has revealed the true flesh tones, and all the highlights of the fabrics. There are some historic worm holes to the canvas stretchers, but these have been recently treated as a precaution.
