A pastel drawing of moored Newlyn fishing boats by Victor Bramley (1934–2014). A wonderful picture capturing the light and shadows on the hulls and rigging in the foreground, and the brightness of the light on the distant harbour buildings. Signed to lower left hand corner.
Victor Bramley was born in Sheffield, moving to St Ives, Cornwall in 1959 at the age of 25. Having found himself a studio, he began to exhibit with the Penwith Society of Arts. In 1962 he was elected to the St Ives Society of Artists. His contemporaries at that time included Barbara Hepworth, Bernard Leach, and Peter Lanyon, amongst others.
