A well-executed watercolour painting of a bird's nest and eggs. Signed 'M. H.' and dated '79' (1879).
Collecting birds' eggs, moths and butterflies, as well as the practice of taxidermy, were popular passions during the Victorian period. As such, there was a demand for natural history studies like this watercolour.
The painting has been recently reframed using a vintage frame, but the original picture framer's label has been retained on the reverse.
