A vintage painted wooden decoy with glass eyes, made in the shape of a wood pigeon. This example has a hollow recess underneath which would have allowed a supporting post to be stored when the decoy was in use. This post would have been pushed into the ground, and the pigeon balanced on top of it. It would then gently rock as through it were feeding, thus tempting real birds to the ground!
